How Verified Move Works

Manifest → copy → per-file SHA-256 compare → approval → source removal.

Verified Move is DriveAtlas Technician’s controlled relocation mode for supported files and folders between local NTFS and exFAT volumes (fixed or removable destinations; FAT32 only when no file exceeds 4 GiB).

It is designed to replace an undocumented drag-and-drop move with a supervised sequence that creates a source manifest, copies the content, verifies the destination, requires technician approval, and records the result.

1. Build the source manifest

Before copying, DriveAtlas inventories every supported regular file in the selected source. The manifest records the relative path and a SHA-256 content hash for each file.

If the source cannot be fully processed within the product’s support boundary, the operation must not continue as an ordinary Verified Move.

2. Copy to the destination

DriveAtlas copies the supported source content to the technician-selected destination on another local NTFS or exFAT volume. The source remains present during the copy and verification phases.

3. Verify every file

After copying, DriveAtlas evaluates the destination against the source manifest. A complete match requires the expected files to be present at the expected relative paths and their content hashes to match the source manifest.

Verification is content-based. It is not a general certification that every possible Windows storage scenario or application dependency is supported.

4. Technician approval

Source removal does not begin merely because the copy command completed. Verified Move requires a complete manifest match and technician approval before DriveAtlas proceeds to the source-removal stage.

5. Record the result

The operation is written to DriveAtlas history. Undo assistance is conflict-aware and does not replace a verified backup. Recovery tools assist with interrupted operations but do not promise automatic resolution of every possible failure.

Important boundaries

  • Outlook PST or OST stores
  • Windows or Program Files locations
  • Cloud-managed content
  • EFS-encrypted data
  • Network, mapped, or optical storage
  • Virtual-machine disks
  • Junctions, symbolic links, or mount points
  • Installed-application migration
  • Delete operations

DriveAtlas reduces undocumented handling by enforcing a controlled workflow. The technician remains responsible for selecting appropriate content, confirming the environment, and maintaining suitable backups.
